Blog and Instagram
October 17, 2018
It seems that everyone writes blogs these days. Some are funny, some are honest, some touch on taboo topics and some are trying to sell you something. What they all have in common is that they are written on subjects that people are interested in, and believe me there are some crazy ones out there!! I find myself drawn to reading the most unusual of blogs and get caught up in the stories, when I look up hours have passed. Some of my favourite blogs feature travel and coffee – two of my favourite things 😊
It came to me this morning that maybe I should jump on the band wagon and blog about the life and times of a Barnsley girl living in Brisbane, Australia who happens to relocate families from around the world into Australia for a business. Great idea, right?
So here goes my first post… You will have to bear with me sometimes, I like to talk a lot and I think that it will come across that way too, and it might take me a while to get to the point…
I probably should give you a little spiel about me, after all I will be writing about things that will ultimately involve me and my family…
My name is Shelley, I am 37 and ¾ and live in the western suburbs of Brisbane. I have been married to Graham AKA Super G as he is known by all our friends and family for 19 years and we have 2 teenage boys. Tom is practically 18 and is off to university in the new year and my baby Ewan is nearly 15 (I have no idea where the years went). We also have a crazy geriatric cat called Marbles who is quickly using up his 9 lives and 2 dogs called Ben and Lucky. Lucky is perfect and is a great example of why you should stop at perfection. Ben is a devil who’s favourite new game is to go crazy each night until I let him out. He then proceeds to leap about on the deck in the moonlight catching cockroaches and beetles. Once he has one, he rolls around on his back with it in his mouth making strange grunts of pleasure, it is almost funny until he brings it inside and then we must catch it. My fur babies will probably feature heavily especially when writing about living in Australia as I am a little animal crazy.
We moved to Australia nearly 11 years ago and are now proud to call ourselves Australian.
I have a background in Law and Children’s services and worked in the Real estate industry in Australia for nearly 9 years. I opened Opal Relocations (www.opalrelocations.com.au) in 2013 when I became disillusioned with all the relocation companies that I would meet during my role as a real estate agent. I thoroughly love my job and it makes me very happy. It fulfils my need to be nosey and look around other people’s houses too 😉
Outside of work I love to read, complete where’s wally jigsaws, drink gin and coffee (but not together) and travel anywhere and everywhere. I drive Super G crazy with my need for order and tidiness, my very bad cooking skills and my ability to even talk under water!
I thought I would write a blog that incorporates everything about living in Australia and working in the Brisbane relocations business, although I promise I won’t be selling you anything! Therefore, feel free at any point to suggest topics you would like to read about, and I will try my very best.
